Are you a hotel person or do you prefer apartments? We are a bit of both, but if you are looking for serviced apartments in Sydney for your vacation, you have come to the right place.
When we are staying in a city for more than a couple of nights, we prefer to book an apartment, either serviced or otherwise, because we like the space and facilities they offer. Being able to make your own breakfast or dinner some days helps the budget and the waistline. It’s also great if you can do some washing. I tend to wake up a lot earlier than Charles so this way I can potter around planning our day without disturbing him
I have decided to highlight both serviced and holiday rental apartments in Sydney to give you an idea of what is available and how much it costs. Serviced apartments are a cross between a hotel and a holiday rental and a good option for longer stays or for groups travelling together. If you are still working out which part of the city you should base yourself check out my post that covers the pros and cons of different areas to stay in Sydney to help you pinpoint a location.
Sydney has a pretty good range of serviced apartments from budget to luxury standard choices. I spent a little while doing mystery shopping over the last year or two and as a result got to stay in several of the apartments I have listed below. I have only added apartments I have either visited or stayed in.
Serviced Apartments in the CBD – Central Sydney
Adina Apartment Hotel – Crown St Surry Hills
Best suited to Foodies and nights on the town in Surry Hills.
Adina offers 1 and two bedroom apartments in one of Sydney’s most popular inner city locations. I have stayed here twice, both times in 1 bedroom apartments at the back of the building. I found them well equipped, spacious and quiet although I have read others say the front rooms are sometimes a little noisy when the pub across the road closes. The bed and sofa were comfortable, and I could imagine myself living there quite comfortably.
The biggest plus to these apartments though is the location. If you love eating out or are in Sydney to check out the nightlife, then this is a great choice. You can walk to at least 20 good restaurants up and down Crown Street. The apartments are right above Bills Restaurant and surrounded by great drinking and dining options.
There are a couple of good pubs right across the road in the Clock Hotel, The White Horse and The Dolphin. If you don’t mind walking it’s about a twenty-minute walk into the centre of the city, 10 minutes down to Central train station and about 5 to Kings Cross. Alternatively, there is a bus stop outside the hotel, and it is only a 5-minute bus ride to the centre of town. Priced from $500 on their website you can usually get them for $250 on sites like Hotelclub
Napoleon on Kent
Best suited to Partying at Darling Harbour
These studio and one-bedroom apartments are relatively basic and the ones facing Kent Street can be a little dark, but the location is excellent. In between Town Hall and Wynyard train stations, they are ideally situated for getting to Darling Harbour and the bars along Cockle Street Wharf. The rack rate is about $400 a night, but they are usually under $190 on the discount websites.
Meriton Serviced Apartments Pitt St, Kent St and World Square
Best suited to Families, shoppers and business travellers.
Meriton has six properties in Sydney and often offer good deals directly from their website. I have booked these on several occasions for friends and colleagues visiting Sydney, and all have been happy with the quality and service. They are bright, modern apartments fully equipped with all you need for a relaxing stay in Sydney.
The Pitt Street and World Square locations are central to everything and particularly suited to shopping. Just a 5-minute walk to Pitt St Mall and ten mins to Paddy’s market and Market City. Kent St is just a short walk to Darling Harbour. There are also properties in Waterloo, Bondi Junction and Parramatta. 1-3 bedroom apartments available and if your budget permits check out the fantastic penthouses at World Square, they have incredible views. Prices on these vary hugely depending on events in Sydney, but they can start from just under $200 at times.
