The Best New Hotels in Sydney 2024

It’s been a while since we covered new hotels in Sydney and I am pleased to say the last two years have seen some fabulous new properties open their doors in the harbour city. We have toured, eaten at or stayed in almost all these hotels, so I can share my thoughts with you today.

This post contains affiliate links. Our full disclosure policy is here.

We update this list of the newest hotels in Sydney including those in the pipeline regularly, so stop by next time you are planning a visit. We have also listed future openings for those of you who like to plan ahead.

Keeping your eye on new hotel openings also has the benefit of perhaps scoring a great opening special deal too.

I love staying in newly opened hotels, and while I have not stayed in all of these as yet, I have done site inspections so I can share my thought on the pros and cons of each property here and help you make the right choice for your stay.

New Hotels in Sydney City Centre

Capella Hotel

Sydney’s newest 5-star heritage property

For over 100 years, the gorgeous sandstone building on the corner of Bridge Street was home of the NSW Department of Education. As someone who visited those offices many times, it’s hard not to wander around in awe of this stunning makeover. Boasting 192 guest rooms and one-bedroom suites, Capella Sydney also offers spacious public areas filled with beautiful artworks and lux furnishings. This is a fantastic- addition to Sydney 5-star hotel list.

The Porter House Hotel Sydney

Boutique heritage style with fabulous in house dining

One of the most recent openings in Sydney, Porter House Hotel mixes heritage style with modern design very successfully.

The 121 hotel room hotel occupies 10 floors in a brand new tower that has been developed next to the 1870s heritage-listed Porter House. On offer are class and superior rooms and junior suites. The hotel also features a rooftop garden, heated pool and fitness centre.

Connected to the heritage Porter House via a walkway you have easy access to the hotel’s exceptional food offerings. The space between the buildings features the largest mural in Sydney, a 335-square-metre work, “Ripples and Droplets” by Maria Fernanda Cardosa.

The original building, Porter House, began life as the Dixson & Sons tobacco factory and warehouse, and by the end of the century housed furniture manufacturer WW Campbell & Co and George Johnson & Sons Leather merchants. The building has been carefully restored to retain its original features and you can see glimpses of the building’s history scattered around the walls of the spaces.

The three in-house dining venues make The Porter House Hotel a fabulous choice for foodies. At street level you have Henry’s bread and wine, all day dining with a croissants and sandwiches during the day Charcuterie, cheese and a great Ruben if you have more of an appetite.

The elevated service levels and inspired menu created by Executive Chef Emrys Jones combine to make Dixson & Sons one of the best hotel restaurant meals we have had in Sydney in a very long time.

Then you have Spice Trader, a dark, moody space that is perfect for pre or post dining drinks. The cocktail list includes fresh takes on many of your favourite drinks and we loved the $10 mini cocktails that allow you to try new flavours without having to commit to a full size price tag.

The staff are more than happy to suggest something new for you to try based on your favourite flavours. We put them to the test, and they hit the mark both times, creating a negroni with native spices for me and a new take on a caipirinha for my partner.!

Who should stay here? Foodies will love the quality onsite dining, great choice for a staycation for locals and well located for travellers visiting the city.

Kimpton Margot Sydney

Art déco beauty

While the outside of the building may not leave much of a lasting impression, once you step inside the new Kimpton Margot Sydney, the building comes to life.

The Aiden is a well located boutique hotel perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy a short break in Sydney. What won me on my visit was the attention to detail. Give me a pillow menu and a great quality bed and you are halfway there. Add a Dyson hairdryer and a Nespresso machine and I just might move in.

The hotel bar stocks a range of Australian beer, wine and spirits, many from Sydney based producers. An in house breakfast is available and guests can help themselves to still or sparkling Moda water that is available on each floor.

  1. Thanks for publishing the list of new hotels in Sydney. All these hotels look good for a stay. Had you provided the price for each type of the room such economic, suite, and budget, the post would’ve been more interesting.
