There are some amazing Airbnb rentals in Sydney, and I’m not just talking about the ones with views to die for! We have pulled together these great Airbnb properties, perfect for a weekend of romance and reconnection in Sydney’s city and beaches.
Today we will share a handful of our favourite Airbnb rentals in Sydney but before we begin, let’s cover some of the basics about choosing your Airbnb property. If Airbnb is not new to you feel free to jump straight to the list.
Some terminology useful when reading Airbnb listings
There are a few specific terms it helps to understand before you begin.
Airbnb Superhosts – Superhosts have been awarded their status because they provide outstanding hospitality. They are checked four times a year to ensure they are still offering their guests an excellent experience. We like to choose super hosts, but it is not always essential for a good experience. If our search results yield lots of options, we tend to filter this setting to help us find a great stay.
Airbnb Plus – is another handy option to filter your search results. Airbnb Plus listings have been visited in person by Airbnb staff and rated for up to 100 things considered important for guest comfort. They usually offer an executive level of comfort and attractive design features.
Tip: Always read the property rules before you book. Something that might be no problem for me might be a real deal-breaker for you.
Beginning your search
Before we give you our shortlist of current favourites let’s go through a couple of things to consider when choosing which property to book.
Location is king
Whether you’re holidaying in Australia from overseas, an interstate getaway or planning a staycation we think the most important consideration when choosing a property is its location. There are dozens of great areas in Sydney to stay, and the right one for your visit will depend on the type of trip you are planning.
I also like to look for stays with good access to public transport and have highlighted this in our recommendations below.
At the bottom of each Airbnb listing is a section on the Neighbourhood – Scroll to the end of the page, and you can read a brief overview or click on it for more details.
What amenities are offered
Deciding how much space you need and what features are a must for you will help you narrow down your search quickly. Using the filters you can show only apartments that offer these.
- Are you happy with a small studio? Having a living room can be great if you or your partner are early risers and like to potter about while the other sleeps in.
- Would you like a full kitchen? If you plan on saving money on food, you might want a kitchen or BBQ area.
- Are the premises suitable for your needs, pet friendly, for example? No stairs if you have mobility issues.
- Do you find it uncomfortable to sleep without airconditioning? You can set this in your search filters.

Staying in Darling Harbour puts entertainment and dining on your doorstep. While a few years ago we would have only recommended this spot for families the recent opening of Darling Square at the Southern End and Darling Quarters upgrade has made it much more appealing for couples.
Peppertree Studio – Darling Harbour/Pyrmont
This affordable studio is in the Goldsbough Building on the edge of Darling Harbour. It’s not luxurious, but it is very well positioned for enjoying a weekend or even a week in Sydney.

Booking an Airbnb Property
There are two types of bookings offered, and it’s personal preference which you use, many people don’t mind either way.
- Instant book – with instant bookings you receive confirmation immediately.
- Request to book – your host will consider your booking request before accepting you. This allows them to look at any reviews you may have received from previous hosts, or if you are a first-timer, they can see your profile and read anything you have added about yourself and your trip in your booking request.
Personally, I prefer the request to book option. I like that the host cares about who stays in their property. This suggests to me that perhaps they take better care of the place.
If you want to find a property to share with a group of friends, try these which allow for a larger number of guests.
