Choosing where to stay is really a matter of personal choice, from the slightly seedy party scene in Kings Cross, to the small super cool wine bars and restaurants in Darlinghurst, the foodie mecca of Surry Hills or the pretty lights of Darling Harbour and the bars of King Street Wharf there is something in Sydney for everyone to enjoy.
Staying near Victoria Street or Darlinghurst Road is a great choice for a weekend of all-night bars and great breakfast cafes. Clubs and pubs are dotted all along this strip and if you do want to head into the CBD Kings Cross train station and several bus routes are only metres away.
The Eight Hotels group have a few good value properties in this area. We recently celebrated my husbands birthday at the Diamant Hotel. The Diamant is right behind the famous Coca-Cola sign and right in the centre of the Kings Cross action.
It’s close to the train station and a handful of great little wine bars that are certainly worth checking out. I am staying here again later this month so will post some new photos then.
Another option at the opposite end of the Cross is The Vibe hotel
Vibe Hotel Rushcutters Bay
A short walk from the main strip at Kings Cross The Vibe Hotel is close enough to the action to be convenient and far enough for you to enjoy a sleep in peace. Right, next to a beautiful park the Vibe also has a nice swimming pool. I have stayed here twice, once in a room and once we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite. The suites are quite large and I could easily have stayed a week. The staff were great. Check out Hugos Lounge on Bayswater Road if you stay here.
If you need some ideas on where to go check out TimeOut Sydney’s feature on Bars in Darlinghurst
If you want to combine your partying with some classic tourist sights then you might want to consider staying in Darling Harbour near King Street Wharf.
Adina Grand Harbourside
Two minutes’ walk from all the action on King St Wharf this hotel is a great location for dining and drinking and only a few minutes’ walk from the shopping strip at Pitt Street. Rooms have recently been updated. We had a one night stay here last year and the location is fantastic but there have been some great deals on the rooms lately and the location is fantastic.
On the opposite side of Darling Harbour is The Star
We stayed here in for 2 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment and really enjoyed it. The rooms were a good size and the kitchen looked well equipped – we did not cook but it seemed to have everything you could need. There is a great pool, spa and plenty within the complex to keep you entertained.
The light rail is downstairs connecting you to Haymarket and the city in just a few minutes. Darling Harbour is a 2-minute walk away and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to explore. My two mid-priced dining picks would be the Zumbo Dessert bar in the attached shopping centre and Fat Noodle on the casino gaming floor.
