This month’s Featured Happy Hour
Bistro George – Bar George Happy Hour
Bistro George sits on Level 1 of Jacksons on George, a few minutes up from Circular Quay. Happy hour runs in the bistro rather than the rooftop, and it works as an aperitivo stop where the snacks are substantial enough to stand in for an early dinner if you order two or three.

Food is priced per item, with marinated Alto Misto olives and Sydney rock oysters with champagne mignonette at $5, and $12 plates including grilled wagyu intercostal skewer with salsa verde, salted cod croquettes, whipped ricotta with wild honey and crispbread, and yellowfin tuna crostini with yuzu kosho.

Aster – Skyline Sessions
Sydney has no shortage of rooftop bars, but Aster at InterContinental Sydney earns its place at the top of the list. Level 32 puts you above most of the CBD with unobstructed harbour views. It’s one of several Sydney bars worth visiting for the view alone, and the Monday and Tuesday format means it’s rarely as crowded as you’d expect.

The deal: $20 cocktails from Aster’s signature and seasonal list, $15 sommelier-selected Australian wines, $10 beers and two Aster wagyu sliders for $18. Live music runs from 6pm to 9pm, so it carries on past the drinks window.

When: Mondays only, 5pm to 7pm
Getting there: 5 minute walk from Circular Quay Station
M Bar
M Bar sits opposite the Downing Centre and serves Thai food from mid-morning until late, which makes it one of the few CBD venues where happy hour rolls straight into dinner.

Live music runs daily and the kitchen stays open past midnight, so it suits a late finish as much as an early knock-off.

When: Daily, 5pm to 7pm
Getting there: 5 minute walk from Museum Station

Parlour at QT Hotel
Parlour sits inside QT on Market Street, next door to the State Theatre. The Afternoon Apéritif is one of the simpler deals in the CBD because every drink is the same price, so there’s no working out which option gives you the best value.

The deal: Everything on the drinks list is $10, covering a mini classic martini, a Four Pillars gin and tonic, mulled wine, draught lager and white, red, rosé or sparkling by the glass. Food is à la carte alongside, with Sydney rock oysters at $3 each, vol-au-vents at $10, pommes frites at $14, the Filet O Fish at $17 and a charcuterie plate at $35.

If you’d rather have the route picked for you, we road tested Local Sauce’s Circular Quay and Rocks bar crawl.
Happy Hours in the Rocks and Circular Quay
The Rocks has more pubs per square metre than anywhere else in Sydney. If you want to string a few together rather than settle in one spot, my Rocks pub crawl maps a route.
The Oriana
The Oriana opened in May 2026 at the northern end of the Overseas Passenger Terminal, taking over both the old Squire’s Landing and the former Quay restaurant space.

It runs across four levels, with a ground floor beer garden and big screen, a pub on Level 1, the restaurant above that and an events space on top. The beer garden is the pick for happy hour since it opens onto the waterfront terrace facing the Harbour Bridge.
The deal: $10 wines, $13 pints and $16 spritzes. No bookings needed, but the deal does not apply in the Level 2 restaurant.
Where: Northern end of the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay West, The Rocks
When: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm
Getting there: 5 minute walk from Circular Quay Station
Munich Brauhaus
Munich Brauhaus runs a Bavarian bier hall format on Playfair Street year-round, with long communal tables and steins as the default measure. Happy hour is one of the better beer deals in The Rocks, and the litre stein is the reason to go rather than the schooner pricing.
The deal: $6 house wines and spirits, $8 for 500ml local beers, a $15 one-litre stein and select cocktails. Soft pretzels and schnitzel on the food side.
Where: 33 Playfair Street, The Rocks
When: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm
Getting there: 5 minute walk from Circular Quay Station
The Mercantile Hotel
The Mercantile has been pouring since 1915 and bills itself as Australia’s oldest Irish pub. The happy hour pricing is average for the area, so the reason to come is the room: live music most nights and a crowd that stays.
It reopened in 2026 after a renovation that added a rooftop bar, and it’s one of the stops on my Rocks pub crawl if you want to make a night of it.
The deal: $9 wines and spirits, $11 select tap pints including Guinness.
Where: 25 George Street, The Rocks
When: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm
Getting there: 8 minute walk from Circular Quay Station
The Orient Hotel
The Orient has been on the corner of George and Argyle since 1844, with a public bar at the front and a courtyard out the back. The deal is a straight swap rather than a discount list, which makes it easy to work out what you’re saving.
The deal: Any pint at schooner price, excluding Guinness and Peroni.
Where: 89 George Street, The Rocks
When: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm
Getting there: 8 minute walk from Circular Quay Station
Le Bar at Le Foote
Le Foote sits in a heritage building in The Rocks with a French-leaning menu and a courtyard that catches the afternoon sun. Happy hour is served at the front bar and in the alfresco courtyard only, so it’s worth heading straight to either rather than taking a table inside.
The deal: $14 cocktails, $8 wine and $6 Le Lager, plus bar snacks at happy hour prices.
Note: 10% Sunday surcharge, 15% public holiday surcharge
Where: George Street, The Rocks
When: Daily, 4pm-6pm
Getting there: Arrive by train to Circular Quay or Wynyard; it’s a 5–7 minute walk.
The Australian Heritage Hotel
This historic pub in The Rocks runs daily specials alongside their weekday happy hour, making it one of the area’s best-value venues. Enjoy $7 house beers and house wines and time it for one of their weekly specials for even more fun.

- Tuesday: $1 chicken wings

The Garden – Happy Hour in a Paul Bangay Landscape
The Garden sits in the Argyle Stores courtyard, designed by landscape architect Paul Bangay. It’s one of the few Rocks venues where you drink surrounded by structured planting rather than sandstone, and it’s roomy enough that it doesn’t feel crammed when busy.
The deal: Everything is $7. Classic cocktails cover the Garden Dry Gin Martini, Negroni, Margarita, Aperol Spritz and Garden Spritz, alongside draught beers, prosecco, wines and house spirits.
The planting changes with the seasons, so it looks different visit to visit.

Getting there: 5 minutes walk from Circular Quay Station
Cruise Bar Sunset Sips
Cruise Bar sits on the Overseas Passenger Terminal with harbour views straight down to the Opera House. Following a recent renovation,The menu now leans classic Australian following a renovation, which I covered in my guide to summer eating in Sydney.

When: Monday to Friday, 4pm-6pm and Friday-Saturday, 10pm-12am

Happy Hours in Barangaroo, Darling Harbour & Glebe
House Bar at Barangaroo House
House Bar is the ground floor of Barangaroo House, the three-level Collins and Turner building on the waterfront. It’s the most casual of the three levels and opens onto the promenade, so it works for a drink after work without booking. The Sunday inclusion is unusual, since most Barangaroo happy hours are weekdays only.

The deal: $10 schooners on all tap beers, $15 spritzes including Aperol and the Club Spritz, $10 small house wines or $16 large, $18 cocktails including an espresso martini and a Tommy’s Margarita, plus $3 freshly shucked oysters.

Anason
Sitting waterfront at Barangaroo, Anason was the first restaurant to open on Wulugul Walk and remains one of its better options. It’s a Turkish meyhane, so the format is drinks alongside meze rather than a bar with snacks bolted on, and the happy hour drinks list is Turkish-leaning rather than the usual spritz lineup.

The deal: Cocktails $14, including Sommy’s Margarita with mastiha, a Turkish Martini made with apple-infused vodka and kahlua, an Amaretto Sour and an Aperol Spritz. Wines $10 covering prosecco, pinot grigio, rosé and cabernet sauvignon. Efes Pilsener $10.

CARDEA
Cardea is a velvet-lined bar in Barangaroo that runs French-influenced dining by day and shifts to cocktails and live entertainment after dark. There is live music, burlesque or cabaret every Tuesday to Saturday evening, so happy hour here often rolls into a show rather than just drinks.

Getting there: From Wynyard Station, use Wynyard Walk to reach Barangaroo in 5–10 minutes.
ABODE Bistro. Bar – $2 Oyster Happy Hour
ABODE sits on Day Street between the CBD and Darling Harbour, and the $2 oysters are the reason to go rather than a sweetener on a drinks deal. They’re Nambucca River oysters from the NSW Mid North Coast, served with an aged white wine dressing.

The deal: $2 Nambucca River oysters, $15 cocktails including a Gin Fizz, Caprioska, Sunrise Mimosa and Whiskey Ginger Highball, $8 house wines by the glass in sparkling, white or red, and schooners from $6. Strongbow cider is $7.
The deal covers a selected list rather than the full drinks menu, and the oysters run until sold out, so it pays to arrive closer to 4.30 than 6.30.
Where: 150 Day St, Sydney
When: Monday–Friday 4:30pm–6:30pm
Bookings: Bookings or walk-ins welcome. Call 02 9260 2945.

Touch Wood – Sundowner Happy Hour at Sydney Fish Market
Touch Wood is the bar at the new Sydney Fish Market, with a north-facing waterfront position that catches sunset over Blackwattle Bay. The space is large enough that busy evenings still feel unhurried, and the snack menu is seafood-led rather than the usual bar list, which suits the setting.

The deal: $8 Young Henrys on tap in Newtowner Pale Ale or Lager, $10 Australian wines by the glass, $15 Aperol Spritz and $20 cocktails including a Smokey Mezcalita and a coffee-washed negroni made with Blackwattle Distillery gin.

Getting there: Light rail to The Fish Market stop
Inner West Happy Hours
The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre – Bloody Big Happy Hour
The Hawke goes against the grain with one of Sydney’s cheapest beer happy hours. At a time when $12 schooners are becoming standard, their Bloody Big Happy Hour brings back knock-off pricing that feels distinctly old-school Australian pub.
It’s refreshingly unpretentious, just affordable after-work drinks in a venue that has a great back story.

The deal: $5.99 schooners and $8.99 pints on Hawke’s core range, $7.99 wines, $14 Aperol Spritzes and $2 dim sims. Served at the public bar in Leisure HQ, with bookings available and walk-ins welcome

Mille Vini
Mille Vini is an Italian restaurant on Crown Street with a terrace looking over Shannon Reserve, so you can sit outside without staring at traffic. Where: 397 Crown Street, Surry Hills

Rosie Campbell’s
Rosie Campbell’s is a Jamaican jerk diner and rum bar further down Crown Street, with live music most weekends and a rum list that goes well beyond the usual. The pricing here is some of the lowest in Surry Hills, and the schooner and jug deals make it a reasonable choice for a group.

When: Tuesday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm
Getting there: 10 minute walk from Central Station

The deal: $7 house beers and wines Monday to Thursday, plus $15 cocktails Thursday and Friday.
Where: 26 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills

The happy hour pricing makes it easy to sample the menu, wagyu cheeseburger spring rolls, seafood laksa xiao long bao, tempura nori tacos, without committing to a full dinner budget. Most dishes sit between $14-30.
