NYE Cruises on Sydney Harbour
If you want front-row seats to the fireworks and a night with hassle-free views, a harbour cruise is the way to go. Cruises range from dinner boats with three-course meals to family-friendly ferries and full-on party boats.
Prices go up as the date gets closer, and most of the boats with good reviews sell out weeks in advance.

Multi-course with drink packages included, on vessels like The Jackson or Captain Cook’s Sydney 2000. Assigned seating and a more formal dress code.
Family Cruises

Getting There and Getting Home
New Year’s Eve comes with major road closures and public transport changes across the city. Knowing what to expect before you go makes a big difference to your night.
What changes on the night
- Road Closures: The Harbour Bridge closes in both directions from around 11pm until 1:30am. Major roads around Circular Quay close from 2pm. Check the official road closure map for exact times.
- Train and Ferry Changes: Trains stop dropping off passengers at Circular Quay from 3pm. Ferries stop running on the harbour by about 5:30pm, with limited services after midnight.
- Bus Changes: Regular stops move to temporary locations across the city from mid-afternoon with different pick-up points for each part of Sydney.
What to expect:
- Extra bus, train and ferry services run from midday to help get everyone into the city.
- After the fireworks, trains typically resume across the Harbour Bridge after 1am.
