Sydney may not have the centuries-old Christmas market traditions of Europe, but we’re quickly catching up. Each year more markets seem to appear and they start as early as October which allows you to get an early start on your Christmas shopping.

This guide covers the best Christmas markets in Sydney, from the CBD to the suburbs and even a few worth the drive in regional NSW. In a hurry, skip to the table where we have listed the markets in date order.

If you’d rather shop after work or once the heat drops, these markets stay open into the evening.

Christmas Markets You Can Reach by Train

These markets are a short walk from a station, so you don’t need to worry about parking.

Christmas Markets in the Sydney CBD, The Rocks and Inner City

The Finders Keepers Summer Market

This one is not strictly a Christmas market, but it is one of the better places to knock over your gift shopping. You will find more than 150 independent designers and makers selling ceramics, art, fashion, homewares and food, with a batch of new stallholders each year.

If you buy for people who like something a bit different, start here. There is also a low sensory hour on the Sunday morning from 9am to 10am, with reduced lights, lower or no music and limited numbers, if you prefer a quieter browse.

Good Food Christmas Market

The team behind the Good Food and Wine Show run a festive version aimed at your Christmas shopping and entertaining. Expect a hall full of producers selling artisan food, wine and gifts, along with limited-edition products made just for the show.

There are live cooking demonstrations from well-known chefs and free wine tasting sessions if you want ideas for the Christmas table.

Martin Place Christmas Market

Cambridge Markets brings up to 60 stalls to Martin Place, so you can fit your Christmas shopping into a lunch break or the trip home. Browse fashion, homewares, candles and decorations, or pick up puddings, gingerbread and wreaths for the Christmas table.

It stays open until after 9pm, which makes it an easy stop for a drink and a bite with friends after work.

Christmas at the Cathedral

The Christmas at the Cathedral has been a hit since day one, but last year they introduced a market stalls and it really added to the event, so this year they are back. Stalls with delicious food and drinks, Christmas goodies, and loads of entertainment for the little ones. Rain or shine, this outdoor event in the Cathedral’s forecourt on College St will run for 12 consecutive nights.

Jolly Market, Christmas Nights

Sydney’s harbour becomes the backdrop for Christmas magic when Jolly Market transforms Circular Quay and The Rocks into a sparkling celebration. For 11 nights, this harbourside market brings together everything that makes an Australian Christmas special.

More than 120 curated stalls stretch from Customs House to the MCA lawn, showcasing local designers, artists, and makers. You’ll find handmade jewellery, ceramics, candles, homewares, and Australian-made gifts that tell a story.

Snow falls every night (yes, really), while live music fills the air with smooth jazz, acoustic soul, and reimagined Christmas classics. The gourmet street food lineup spans everything from smoky barbecues and wood-fired pizzas to fresh seafood platters and festive desserts.

The Rocks Christmas Markets

If you are not quite feeling the Christmas love, a visit to the Rocks Christmas Markets is bound to change that.

The markets feature elves on stilts, light-up angels, live music and DJs and, of course, delicious holiday-themed, gourmet street food. All up over 70 stalls for your Xmas shopping (and eating) needs!

Christmas Markets on the North Shore and in Ryde

The Coal Loader Artisans Market

Mosman Twilight Christmas Market

Christmas shopping, an evening stroll, and dinner at the food stalls are all perfectly good reasons for visiting Mosman this December.

A quality art and craft market is located in the heart of one of Sydney‘s finest shopping precincts, the Mosman market will feature over 130 art and craft stalls, with gourmet food, ambient music and a lively atmosphere.

We also recommend checking out Kirribilli Markets on the 6, 13 and 19 December. Both the general market and the art and design markets offer great gift-buying opportunities.

Ryde Christmas Market

The annual Ryde Christmas Market transforms the scenic Ryde Wharf Reserve into a festive wonderland. This special holiday edition of the popular Ryde Wharf Market offers an expanded selection of boutique stalls against a stunning harbourside backdrop.

Double Bay Christmas Festival

The Double Bay Christmas Festival transforms Steyne Park into a festive wonderland, featuring over 100 carefully curated market stalls. This sophisticated Christmas celebration combines shopping, entertainment and seasonal cheer.

This one is all about the food, so come hungry. Cambridge Markets is filling Randwick Racecourse with street food stalls, international dishes and sweet treats for an afternoon and early evening of Christmas eating. It runs on a Friday, so it’s an easy after-work stop with friends or family.

Heart of Randwick Christmas Market

The historic Heritage Quarter in Randwick will transform into a festive wonderland for this twilight Christmas market. Presented by Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct and Cambridge Markets, promises a carefully curated selection of stallholders and festive entertainment.

Christmas Markets in the Inner West and Western Sydney

Carriageworks Twilight Christmas Market

Three days before Christmas, the weekly Carriageworks Farmers Market becomes an evening Christmas market. Stock up on seasonal produce, food gifts and supplies for Christmas lunch and summer entertaining.The Saturday Farmers Market also sells fresh-cut Christmas trees from Dural for three weekends from 28 November.

Burwood Christmas Market

Cambridge Markets brings its Christmas market back to Burwood Park for an afternoon and evening of shopping and eating. It runs until 9pm, so you can come after the heat of the day and stay for dinner from the food stalls. The park is a short walk from Burwood Station.

European Christmas Market Ashfield

Experience a slice of European Christmas tradition at the Polish Club Ashfield’s annual market. This indoor market brings together traditional foods, crafts, and entertainment for a festive winter-style celebration.

Central Coast Christmas Fair
